Copa America: Argentina Begins Title Defense With Dominant Win Over Canada

Historic Tournament Returns With Thrilling Opening Match

Argentina Extends Unbeaten Streak Against CONCACAF Teams

The Copa America, the oldest continental championship in the world, has returned with a thrilling opening match that saw Argentina kick off their title defense with a dominant 2-0 victory over Canada. The tournament, first held in 1916, has been a showcase for some of the greatest players in history, and this year's edition promises to be no exception.

Argentina, with its record 15 Copa America titles, has always been a force to be reckoned with in the tournament. They have not lost to a team from the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) since 2004, a streak that continued with their victory over Canada.

Lionel Messi, who recently ended his wait for a first major international title with Argentina's victory in the Copa America final in Rio's Maracana Stadium, was once again the star of the show. He set up both goals for Argentina, with Julian Alvarez scoring the first and Lautaro Martinez adding the second.

With the victory, Argentina has taken an early lead in Group A, which also includes Chile and Uruguay. Canada, meanwhile, will look to bounce back in their next match against Chile on June 10.
